This Week at Winsor

Our Weekly Update...

Open House

A very special thank you to our families for attending Open House last evening. We always enjoy connecting with our community as a means of building and maintaining a foundation for learning. Our students love to show off their school. It means a great deal to all of us that this event was so extensively attended. These types of events maintain the strong connection that we all value.

Bryant Basketball Visit

This past Tuesday, Winsor students were treated to a special, surprise assembly as the Bryant Men's Basketball Team joined us for an outdoor school program. Coach Grasso and his players were dynamic speakers, with a message that hard work and determination are keys in all areas of life. Many of the players spoke of their own elementary school experiences, recalling obstacles that they faced, along with solutions and growth opportunities that ensued. These personal stories of persistence and accomplishment resonated with our students. Following this inspirational program, students in Grades 4 and 5 participated in a demonstration and mini-clinic, getting the opportunity to interact with the players on the court. A very special thank you to Bryant University and Coach Grasso for taking the time to build a connection with our school. We anticipate this is just the beginning of a connection between SPS and Bryant University.

Fire Safety Assembly

A special thank you to the Smithfield Fire Department for providing a fire safety program for our students. As we know, having a plan in case of an emergency is critical. Being able to react and respond to a potential fire the right way prepares our students for life. In addition, connecting with local organizations, such as the SFD, creates a sense of belonging and community. We look forward to a continued partnership and appreciate the work that the firefighters put in to be with us this week!

School Improvement Team- We need YOU!

Next Thursday, September 26th, our SIT will meet for the first time this year. For those new to our community, the SIT offers an opportunity to dive into the major initiatives and curricular programs provided for students. If you were ever curious about why or how your student's educational decisions were made, SIT offers a lens into high impact initiatives such as Responsive Classroom, Growth Mindset, Collins Writing, and subject area curricula. Please join us at 3:30 pm next Thursday.

Thank you for being our partners in education. We hope everyone has a fantastic weekend.
