This Week at Winsor

And Down the Stretch We Come....

Keeping Up With Kindergarten

It has been another busy week here in K. We have spent a lot of time reviewing addition through flashcards, word problems and mad minutes. During Writing, we have begun our Father’s Day projects! We have also spent some time finishing up assessments!

Thank you to Miss Burrows for putting together such a beautiful art show! Our Kindergarten students have learned so much about art through your class! It’s amazing what they can do!

Please be sure to send back the “Formal Invitation” for our Kindergarten Stepping Up Ceremony on Friday, June 7th at 9:00 as soon as possible. Room Mom’s will be emailing the class about refreshments and donations for the small reception following the show!

As always, thank you for all that you do for our classes!

Learning and Fun in Grade One

Yesterday grade one was lucky enough to see Pete the Cat Live performed at the Veterans Auditorium. Everyone enjoyed seeing this book and all its characters come to life. Many thanks to all our fantastic parent chaperones (Mrs. Borden, Mrs. Adler, Mrs. Cotrone, Mrs. McVay, and Mrs. McCaskill) for joining us on our last field trip. Here are just a few reviews from our fabulous firsties:

“Groovy!” Joe – 1K

“So funny when they were hiding under the couch!” Juliana-1D, Grace and Martin-1K

“Loved the singing!” – Tayla-1K

“Silly because the little girl wanted to marry Peter,” Jenna-1D

“I like that Pete the Cat could go to so many different places in his VW bus, like Paris!!!” – Jake and Colin – 1K

“It was weird when the VW bus went underwater because cats don’t like water!” Amir and Emma – 1D

It’s amazing how quickly the year has flown by-seven more days till the end of school. Everyone’s looking forward to Field Day, Kona Ice, and visiting grade two to get the inside scoop for next year. The inquiring minds of grade one wrote up many questions on Question Day for our second grade friends to answer – they can’t wait to get together onVisit Day.

We thank you for a wonderful year in first grade and we shall miss our firsties as they head up the stairs to grade 2. Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy your summer!

THRILLS IN THIRD

We are wrapping up our third grade year with a great balance of work and play! This week our students have been diligently completing end of the year assessments to truly demonstrate what they have learned as third graders. We’ve been spending time reviewing the entire year’s worth of skills and taking some quick assessments that can be passed along to next year’s teachers. It is very impressive to see how much we have grown and how much new learning can happen in only 180 days! Our ABC Countdown to Summer continued with days P, Q, R and S. On Tuesday we celebrated a Patriotic Day by dressing in red, white and blue and creating cards to thank our servicemen and women. On Wednesday, we enjoyed some Quiet reading with our Kindergarten buddies. On Thursday we Raced down to Casey Farm and had an amazing field trip where we learned more about agriculture and animal development. A big thank you to all of the parent chaperones who joined us. Finally on Friday we completed a STEM challenge in which students created different paper airplane designs and tested them to find the best design for flight. We are looking forward to the last days of third grade, wish all of our families a happy summer and feel very proud of our soon to be fourth graders for all of their hard work this year!!

Learning More in Grade 4

This year flew by! It is hard to believe our time together is coming to an end.

It has been a pleasure working with everyone this year. We are confident that this group will be great role models next year.

We wish everyone a safe and healthy summer break!

The Fabulous Five

The fifth graders have been very busy with end of the school year activities!

Our field trip to the Boston Museum of Science and the Boston Duck Tours was a splashing success! At the museum, the students were very engaged in the scientific hands-on activities which required them to utilize their inquiry and observational skills. They also rode through Boston in their DUCK, learning many interesting facts about the city, including the pivotal events of the American Revolution that took place in Boston.

Our fifth graders will rise to the occasion as outstanding leaders for our younger students during field day on Tuesday, June 4th. Each fifth grader will lead the younger students in activities. We are so proud of their leadership and enthusiasm as they serve as role models for our younger students.

To all our wonderful fifth graders:

“ Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”

- Dr.Seuss

We would like to wish you all the best of luck in middle school!!!

Remember to reach for the stars and be the best that you can be! We will miss you!

Health & PE Update

I'd like to start by saying last night was the the most incredible Art Show I've seen here at Winsor! Great job by Miss Burrows and the students for their amazing work! The dedication and passion at this school is truly inspiring, it's what makes us who we are. We have a huge week coming up with the school play on Monday, Field Day on Tuesday and Pickleball Tournament on Wednesday. I would like to thank Mr. Ackerman and our staff for being the most cooperative and supportive team I could ask to work with. Without them and the help of our students namely grade 5; we wouldn't be able to do what we do. We are family here and all our families have given us such great support over the years; I can't thank you enough. Just know that I appreciate all of you and I am extremely lucky to be teaching all the wonderful children at Winsor. Finally, I would like to acknowledge the grade 5 class. This group of young people is truly special! I can't believe they will be leaving us in some seven days. I have seen more growth in these children that I could hope for. They are the most helpful, kind, considerate boys and girls who help do anything you ask at any time. They will go on to change people and accomplish their goals' I know it. They have set a standard here and I am so proud to have been their teacher! Thank you grade 5, you will truly be missed. Let's finish strong with some big fun events next week!

Best Wishes,

Mr.M

Art Update!

Thank you so much to everyone who attended last night's Art Show. It was a great success and it makes me so happy to see all of the beautiful student work on display. I am so proud of our students and the work that they do. I am incredibly lucky to be a part of the wonderful William Winsor Community.

Students will bring all of their artwork home in a portfolio next week. Get your frames ready and have a wonderful summer!

School Updates

Thank you to our friends at the Special Olympics for again running by Winsor. Our students were out in full force to cheer the athletes on.

Thank you also to Coach Kira from the YMCA. She ran a special health and fitness assembly program for students today. It was well enjoyed by all.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
