Become a Local Food Ambassador For Smithfield

The goal of the LFA program is to raise awareness for Farm-to-School activities and encourage students to eat a greater variety of vegetables and fruits.

RI Healthy Schools Coalition and Farm Fresh RI work with school food service to train volunteers (parents & community members) on how to host cafeteria taste-tests featuring locally grown produce.

Kids love it! Since the cafeteria staff is so busy serving lunch, we launched this program for volunteers to conduct these tastings, which will help make tastings a more regular and fun practice at the schools.

Can you make a modest time commitment to be trained as a volunteer Local Food Ambassador in your district?

Join us for a training session to learn how to organize a cafeteria taste-testing event by working alongside Farm Fresh RI & RIHSC staff during the lunch periods at the host school (see below).

After the training session, you’ll be equipped to work with school food service to organize and lead future cafeteria taste-testing events at any of your district elementary schools!

RSVP to Karin Wetherill at RIHSC or email for more information: karin.wetherill@rihsc.org

Training for all SMITHFIELD volunteers will be hosted at:
