Over the past 9 weeks the first graders in Mrs. David’s class have been working on making a non-fiction book. Students began this process by choosing an animal that they wanted to learn more about, such as a wolf, bear, or snake. Then, students read books and answered questions, using graphic organizers, about their animals: where they live (habitats), what they look like (characteristics), what they eat, and what eats them. After that, students wrote their first draft and sketched pictures. Next they conferenced with each other and an adult to write their final copy. They worked really hard on these books and to show them off we had a celebration on Friday with Mrs. Keenan’s class. We are so proud of them.
