Students in Grade 1 had the opportunity to test their engineering skills through a Science lesson in parachute design. Working in teams, students needed to construct a parachute that would safety allow a payload to drop from an elevated location. Students needed to engage critical thinking skills, work in a team dynamic, and execute a vision of a design to complete this fun but challenging task. Students first dropped the parachute in the classroom. Next, students went outside and dropped the parachute from an elevated location. From here, students were asked to discern the difference, if any, from dropping the parachute from a higher position than from simply standing.
